What is Cryotherapy at Eden Skin & Laser Clinic?

At Eden Skin & Laser Clinic, we offer professional Cryotherapy as a fast and effective way to remove benign skin lesions. This medical procedure involves the controlled application of extreme cold (using liquid nitrogen or a specialised cryo-pen) to freeze and destroy unwanted skin cells. By precisely targeting only the affected tissue, we can remove imperfections with minimal discomfort and without the need for incisions or stitches.

What Does It Treat

  • Skin Tags: Small, soft growths often found on the neck, armpits, or groin.

  • Warts & Verrucas: Viral growths on the hands, feet, or body.

  • Seborrhoeic Keratoses: Non-cancerous, "wart-like" skin growths common with age.

  • Milium: Small, hard white bumps (milk spots).

  • Cherry Angiomas: Small, bright red spots made of blood vessels.

  • Pigmented Spots: Sunspots or age spots on the face and hands.

How Does It Work

At Eden Skin & Laser Clinic, our practitioners use a high-precision cryosurgical device to deliver a fine jet of nitrous oxide at -89°C directly onto the lesion. This extreme cold causes the water in the skin cells to freeze and crystallise, rupturing the cell membrane and destroying the targeted tissue. The surrounding healthy skin remains untouched. Following the treatment, a small crust or scab will form, and the lesion will naturally wither and fall away as the healthy skin heals underneath.

  • Yes. Cryotherapy is a low-risk, non-invasive procedure that has been used in clinical settings for decades. At Eden Skin & Laser Clinic, our experts carefully assess every lesion before treatment to ensure it is suitable for removal. If there is any doubt regarding the nature of a lesion, we will advise a GP consultation first.

  • Most clients describe the sensation as a sharp, cold sting—similar to a nettle sting or a quick pinch. The sensation lasts only a few seconds during the "freeze" cycle. There may be a lingering itchy or tingling sensation for a few minutes afterward, but the procedure is generally very well tolerated without anaesthetic.

  • The results are usually seen within 7 to 14 days. After the treatment, the area may become dark or form a small scab. This is a normal part of the healing process. Once the scab naturally falls off, the lesion will be gone, leaving fresh, new skin in its place. Some stubborn lesions, such as larger verrucas, may require a follow-up session.

  • There is no "social" downtime; you can return to your normal activities immediately. However, the treated area will go through a healing phase. Occasionally, a small blister may form at the site—this is a normal response and should be left to heal naturally.

    • Leave it Alone: Do not pick, scratch, or pull at the treated lesion or any resulting scab.

    • Keep it Clean: Gently wash the area with mild soap and water, then pat dry.

    • Sun Protection: Once the lesion has fallen away, the new skin is sensitive. Apply a high-factor SPF to prevent pigmentation.

    • Blister Care: If a small blister forms, do not pop it; it acts as a natural sterile dressing.

    • Avoid Irritation: Avoid using active skincare (Retinol or acids) on the treated area until it is fully healed.

    • Healing Time: Allow up to 2 weeks for the lesion to fully disappear.
